Ultrasonic rhinoplasty is a relatively new technique for doing a rhinoplasty. It works for both, primary and revision rhinoplasty.

Here’s what makes ultrasonic rhinoplasty unique. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty utilizes a specialized instrument called a piezotome. This instrument uses tips that vibrate at a very fast rate. Therefore, the piezotome slices very accurately through bone. The bits look like something that you would use on a Dremel Moto-Tool. These bits are sharp, and they essentially slice through bone. If you happened to place the running bit on your finger, it would do absolutely nothing; it only cuts bone. The main difference between a ultrasonic rhinoplasty and a traditional rhinoplasty deals with cutting the bone (osteotomies).
The result of using this tool is: (1) reduced bleeding by 50-75%, (2) reduced postoperative bruising/swelling, and (3) reduced post-operative recovery period. This is one of the most promising advancements in the field of rhinoplasty in the last 25-30 years.
